The secret to the quality of Tokaj wines lies in the nutrient-rich soil of Hegyalja and its particularly favorable climatic conditions for viticulture. The base of the Tokaj vineyard area is volcanic bedrock made up of andesite, rhyolite, and their tuffs, with loess soil on the rock. However, the soil layer formed on the volcanic rock is only a part of the world-class viticulture, as the sunny climate plays at least an equally important role in it.
The multi-storied cellars dug into the rhyolite tuff offer a truly atmospheric opportunity for wine tasting and gastronomy enthusiasts, corporate teams, and anyone who wants to unwind at a high level in our country and immerse themselves in the inimitable world of wines.

Kopasz Hill of Tokaj is the bastion of softer wines. As the soil of Kopasz Hill has more loess compared to the rest of the wine region, it provides a perfect growing ground for softer-flavored, more fragrant grape varieties, thanks to its lower acidity.
The first mention of the vineyards of Tokaj Hegyalja can be found in the foundation charter of the Turóczi prepost, written by the local sacrificing priest in 1251. Of course, the word spread quickly about the tasty wines, and King Béla IV tried to exploit even more the opportunities inherent in the Tokaj region by inviting Italian winemakers. Wine production in Tokaj kicked off so much that by the 16th century, the national assembly was also dealing with the business potential inherent in viticulture. The rest is history, as Tokaj's closed wine region, thanks to the hard-working diligent winemakers over the long centuries, has now become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Although it is not known who planted its southern slopes with vines, viticulture was an extremely popular activity in Tokaj even before the conquest.
In the 20th century, Tokaj enjoyed huge popularity all over Europe, so it's no wonder that even in the 1980s - many consider the heyday of Tokaj tourism - even Poles and Russians drank the famous Hungarian wine together in friendship.
There are many top-notch wineries in Tokaj and the surrounding settlements. Tolcsva is worth highlighting, located in the geometric center of Tokaj-Hegyalja, which has the best slope for fruit growing. However, in Hercegkút, Makkoshotyka, Olaszliszka and Szerencs, as well as in Tállya and Vámosújfalu, several famous wineries are waiting for those interested in wine tasting.
Whether you prefer Tokaji aszú wine, furmint, or even pinot noir, you are guaranteed to find what you're looking for in the Tokaj region. The dedicated work of the local farmers and the noble molds (botrytis cinerea and cladosporium cellare) found in the famous wine cellars result in such flavorful wines that every drop is a true national treasure.
