Babarczi Vineyard and Winery is a family-owned vineyard and winery, currently run by the second generation of the Babarczi family, located in one of Hungary's smallest yet historically rich wine regions, the Pannonhalma Wine Region, near Győr. The estate lies on the slopes of the Sokoró Hills, which form the last extension of the Bakony mountains at the edge of the Little Plain.
The first steps in creating the estate were taken in 1980 when we planted our first vineyard in the garden of our family house in Győrújbarát, covering 3,000 m² with Ezerfürtű and Cserszegi fűszeres varieties. Over the following nearly four decades, we have expanded the estate in smaller and larger steps, and we now operate 65 hectares.
Our vineyards are mainly located in the areas of Győrújbarát and Tényő, but we also cultivate 5-hectare plots in Győrszemere and Pannonhalma, the latter in the famous Széldomb vineyard.
In 2009, we launched a comprehensive vineyard renewal program, which has enabled us to establish over 40 hectares of new, modern vineyards. We will continue this process in the coming years to create a stable foundation for the further development of the estate. Our main grape varieties are the Rhine Riesling, Olaszrizling, and Müller-Thurgau, complemented by Irsai Olivér, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Cserszegi fűszeres.
In 2002, we made a significant step in the life of the estate by transitioning to gentle grape processing and reductive winemaking technology. We also established a new estate center in Győrújbarát, located near Győr, whose main building, according to legend, was built from the bricks of the Győr Castle, which was destroyed by the Turks. In addition to winemaking, we now also offer hospitality services.
Our goal is to create a dynamically growing estate that can continuously renew itself, thanks to the cooperation and hard work of our family, spanning generations. Through the wines we produce, we aim to faithfully showcase the unique characteristics of our region year after year.
