The Haraszthy Winery is much more than just vineyards and wine: it’s relaxation, diverse programs, unforgettable experiences, a unique gastronomic world, freedom, friendship, and love.
The winery was founded in 1996 by Carlos Coelho, an Argentinian native with roots in both California and Hungary, on Öreghegy in Etyek. The winery is named after Ágoston Haraszthy, the father of California’s viticulture, who set an example by successfully blending traditional values with modern perspectives. Over the past two and a half decades, we have upheld this philosophy to craft distinctive wines under the leadership of our winemaker, Dániel Pázmányi.
Today, we manage 123 hectares, making Haraszthy Winery the second-largest player in the Etyek-Buda wine region. Nearly 10% of our vineyards are located on Etyek’s Öreghegy, right next to the winery. This is where we harvest the grapes for our vineyard-select Öreghegy wines and the base wine for our premium sparkling wines. The majority of our vineyards, however, are situated in Vál, where we work with newly planted vines. Vál is also home to the Love Statue, an artwork that inspired our LOVE wine series.
Vál holds special significance for us. Our goal is to fully restore and improve these vineyards through careful attention and continuous effort. This includes replacing missing vines, replanting old areas, and establishing new plantations, all while prioritizing sustainability.
In addition to traditional Hungarian varieties in Etyek, we are also refining the local cultivation of Burgundy’s signature grape varieties. Our main focus is on Irsai Olivér, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir, while blends often include Pinot Gris, Királyleányka, and Zenit.
We believe that unique and characterful wines can only be created by combining modern technology with traditional methods.
Our winemaking process employs state-of-the-art yet gentle techniques. Grapes are carefully selected before destemming, and after pressing, fermentation is carried out using controlled methods. Only casein-free materials are used during the winemaking process.
In 2021, we produced 350,000 bottles of wine, carefully curating our offerings to ensure an exciting and unique selection for all wine lovers.
The LOVE and ETYEK wine families are crafted exclusively using reductive methods. These wines are light yet well-structured, characterized by freshness, vibrant primary aromas, and liveliness.
Our Premium and Fantástico wine families are only produced in exceptional vintages using carefully selected grapes. These wines typically reach their optimal drinking age at around three years old.
Our portfolio also includes wines from our sister wineries in Argentina and California, offering a diverse range of flavors and styles.
