The building's history dates back more than two hundred years. The Hungária Bath was already known among the people of Pest in 1820, and its owner, András Gamperl, discovered the cold water rich in mineral salts in the area. From the 1840s, it was referred to as the Hungária Bath, and the building, which was later rebuilt, was destroyed by the Pest flood.
From 1897, the building was owned by the Ringer family, who transformed it into a modern bath complex. In 1910, it was rebuilt according to the plans of Emil Ágoston, and it became fashionable among the capital's bathers. In the 1920s, it was acquired by the Real Estate Bank, and the Continental Hotel was opened. Later, the Klauzál Street People's Bath was demolished, and in 1929, an art deco-style apartment building was built in its place.
In 1970, the Continental Hotel closed, and the building began to decline. By the 1980s, its condition became life-threatening, and restoration work began. Eventually, the building was given new life and is now home to both ARAZ Restaurant and Continental Hotel Budapest.
A prominent creation of Hungarian Art Nouveau, the building perfectly fits into the streetscape of the historic Jewish Quarter, providing a worthy home for ARAZ Restaurant.
